Dean is the younger of Dr. Thaddeus "Rusty" Venture's fraternal twin sons. Both he and his brother Hank are rather naive and share a taste for Hardy Boys-style adventure and mystery. Dean inherited his father's thin, unthreatening body, as well as some of his grandfather's intelligence. Even so, he lacks common sense and blacks out if he stands up too quickly.

Dean has a crush on Dr. Orpheus's daughter Triana, and even though she thinks he is cute, she has shown no other signs of reciprocating his feelings. It should also be mentioned the Dr. Venture seems to favor Dean and occasionally expresses interest in raising him to be his successor.
